Flower Care Instructions

How to Care for Your Fresh Flowers

Proper care will help your beautiful flowers stay fresh and vibrant for as long as possible. Follow these simple tips to maximize the life of your bouquet.

Upon Arrival

1. Unpack Immediately: Remove your flowers from the packaging as soon as possible to allow them to breathe.

2. Prepare a Clean Vase: Use a clean vase and fill it with fresh, cool water. Wash the vase with soap and water to remove any bacteria.

3. Trim the Stems: Cut 2-3 cm off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle using sharp scissors or pruning shears. This helps the flowers absorb water more efficiently.

4. Remove Lower Leaves: Remove any leaves that would sit below the water line to prevent bacterial growth.

Daily Care

Change the Water: Replace the water every 1-2 days with fresh, cool water. This prevents bacteria buildup and keeps flowers fresh.

Re-trim Stems: Each time you change the water, trim about 1 cm off the stems at an angle.

Keep Water Clean: Remove any fallen petals or leaves from the water immediately.

Placement Tips

Avoid Direct Sunlight: Keep your flowers away from direct sunlight, which can cause them to wilt faster.

Stay Cool: Place flowers in a cool location, away from heating vents, radiators, and appliances that generate heat.

Avoid Fruit: Keep flowers away from ripening fruit, which releases ethylene gas that can shorten flower life.

Avoid Drafts: Keep away from fans, air conditioners, and open windows with strong breezes.

Special Care for Different Flowers

Roses: Remove guard petals (outer petals) if they appear damaged. Re-cut stems under water for best results.

Tulips: Continue to grow after cutting. Trim stems regularly and expect them to bend toward light.

Lilies: Remove pollen-bearing anthers to prevent staining and extend bloom life.

Hydrangeas: These are heavy drinkers! Ensure they have plenty of water and mist the blooms daily.

Flower Food

If flower food is provided with your arrangement, add it to the water according to package instructions. Flower food contains nutrients and antibacterial agents that help extend flower life.

Signs Your Flowers Need Attention

  • Drooping heads: Needs fresh water and stem trim
  • Cloudy water: Change water immediately
  • Wilting leaves: Remove affected leaves and change water
  • Slimy stems: Clean vase thoroughly, trim stems, and use fresh water

How Long Will They Last?

With proper care, most fresh flowers last 5-7 days. Some varieties like carnations, chrysanthemums, and alstroemeria can last up to 2 weeks, while delicate flowers like tulips may last 3-5 days.
